The San Antonio Formation and Enhancement Center, Inc. (SAFEC) is duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a non-profit, non-stock private corporation on August 11, 2000. It was founded by a group of incorporators headed by Ms. Maria Teresa “Nene” Chan in memory of her late father, Philanthropist Mr. Antonio Chan, to take care of children in Negros Occidental, who are abandoned, neglected, and those who ran away from home. Its main office is located at Narra Ext., Hervias, Villamonte, Bacolod City. The foundation has 6 regular staff and 14 members of the Board of Trustees.
The following are the certification history of SAFEC:
1st Application – 1 year on June 4, 2002 – June 3, 2003
1st Renewal – 3 years on September 27, 2004 – September 26, 2007
2nd Renewal – 3 years on March 10, 2009 – March 9, 2012
3rd Renewal – 3 years on March 29, 2012 – March 5, 2015
4th Renewal – 3 years on August 10, 2015 – August 9, 2018
Its purposes, among others, are “to promote child survival, development, protection and participation towards realizing its vision to as God-loving, proud, endowed with dignity and self-respect and to develop the ‘total person’ of abandoned, orphaned and/or street children”. The Foundation also provides aid to victims of calamities and livelihood assistance and skills training to marginalized sectors and poor communities.
The Foundation’s programs now focus on the following areas: (1) Residential Care Program – for girls ages 12-17. It provides Education; Psychosocial Activities; Skills Training; Spiritual Activities; Socio-emotional Activities; and (2) 1Meal Program is SAFEC’s Community-based projects which includes scholarship for college students, feeding, relief and disaster operation, classroom repairs and construction and donations of educational materials and gift-giving.
