In 1983, Conrado Alcantara created a social responsibility unit of C. Alcantara and Sons in Davao City. It was on September 28, 1987 that this was formalized and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as Alsons Human Development Foundation, a non-stock, non profit organization with the employees of the mother company as its direct beneficiaries, later it became dormant and was reactivated in 1991. It changed its name to Conrado Alcantara Foundation (CAFI) to institutionalize his noble ideas. In 2003, the Alcantara Family decided to move the operations of CAFI to Sarangani Province which is considered as the 4th poorest province in the Philippines. The Province is also the home of various Alcantara companies that implement their own CSR programs. CAFI implements its programs in partnership with big NGOS like PBSP, Mahintana Foundation, Coca Cola Foundation and Petron Foundation.
In 2007, CAFI changed its name to Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation, Inc. (CLAFI) to honor the couple in its efforts to lead a life of simplicity and hard work, and derived satisfaction in knowing that they have helped others. Today, under the leadership of their daughter, Ms. Cecille Alcantara Dominguez, the Foundation expanded its scope with its flagship programs on Education and Environment. It developed its niche in helping IP students in Sarangani and Regions IX and XII.
