The Children’s Hour started as a fund raising project conducted in 1999 and 2002 to support child focused programs and services. It generated funds by encouraging individuals to donate the equivalent of one hour of their income/salary mainly through corporations and other types of organizations.
The success of the initiative led the Steering Committee to register Children’s Hour Philippines, Inc. as a non-stock, non-profit organization with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 2003. Its main purpose is to “give the Filipino child the right to a safe, happy and fulfilling future”. It generates resources to support projects in education, health & nutrition and child welfare & development for disadvantaged Filipino children nationwide. Resources are generated mainly through the collective action of employees, corporations, organization, and individuals by giving one hour of their earnings once a year. The NGO also employs other means of raising funds and other resources, including earnings from investments. It operates as a grant-making institution. It is located at Unit 505 Liberty Building, 835 A.S. Arnaiz Ave., Legaspi Village, Makati City. The organization has 12 regular staff, and 21 members of the Board of Trustees.
